School-Based Climate Education Programs
HCGI extended its climate outreach to schools in the Federal Capital Territory, including Model Junior Secondary School, Maitama, and Junior Secondary School, Mpape, Durumi, Jibi, Dei Dei, Idu, and School for the Blind. In each of these schools, we implemented carbon sequestration tree-planting exercises and delivered educational sessions on critical climate topics such as climate change impacts, deforestation and climate change, and the recycling of plastic waste for climate action.
These climate education initiatives led to significant improvements in students' climate awareness and understanding of climate adaptation and mitigation practices, as reported by educators and school administrators. To ensure continuity and long-term climate impact, HCGI established Green Clubs in all the schools visited. These clubs serve as peer-led platforms where students continue to learn and advocate for climate action and climate resilience.
